4" VGA, New Touchpad, but Hefty in Size and Price
Review From: NexTag Editorial Review, Apr 6, 2005
HP's iPAQ HX4705 Pocket PC is a powerhouse of a PDA featuring a blazing 624MHz Intel processor, a 4" 640x480 pixel VGA display, and innovative touchpad to start. This high-end device is well target toward mobile business professionals who demand a versatile yet robust handheld to satisfy their needs. More features include both 802.11b Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capability, LEDs that provide system and connectivity notification, and dual expansion slots for SD, MMC, or CF cards. The large 4" VGA display produces bright vibrant colors and is able to switch from portrait to landscape mode. HP has replaced the traditional four-way navigational button with an innovative touch pad, which may be awkward for those used to the navigational button. The device also includes 192MB total memory (RAM and ROM) and a replaceable Lithium-Ion battery. The iPAQ HX4705 runs Windows Mobile 2003 SE, with applications such as standard Personal Information Management applications, Pocket Outlook, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player 9.0, iPAQ Image Zone, a trial version of ListPro, iPAQ iTask Manager, a trial version of Cadenza mNotes, a trial version of Margi Presenter-to-Go, and HP Mobile Printing. This device is larger and heavier than most PDAs, but this is primarily due to the larger VGA display and added design features. For some, bigger may be better, though this is not a device that will easily fit in your pocket. Considering the type of display, the HX4705 is rather lacking in multimedia applications to take advantage of its full potential. Overall, the HX4705 is a robust device packed full of features. If users can sacrifice a large VGA display and novel touchpad, they are better off looking at competiting products with some of the same features for a fraction of the price
