This box is NOT yet a real appliance for the typical end user. The firmware shipped with the box is SO full of bugs that you should NOT attempt to do anything until upgrading the firmware to at least 1.0.2. This firmware ONLY allows ext2 formatting as ext3 caused major issues on the previous firmware releases. Even if you formatted to ext2 using one of the earlier releases of the firmware, REFORMAT after the firmware upgrade. Once this is done, the box works great, especially for Windows environments. It does work for OSX environments, but it takes a bit more knowledge to wring all the DNS323 capabilities under OSX. For the money, though, this is a great product.

The D-Link DNS-323 is a terrible device. It was a waste of time and money for me. Dumps data just by powering it off & on. Tigerdirect will not refund me my money because it is a programming error on the unit. D-Link will not issue a refund because they don't refund people for their products and only tell you to contact the seller, Tigerdirect. I could barely hear Tech Support and their phone system dumped me 2 times, both times the Tech Support tech was talking to me mid-sentence. This device should not be used to back-up data!!!
