Poor software design makes it less useful than the 2620
Review From: Jim VanderWall, Jul 11, 2006
I received my 2720 unit as a replacement for a failed Garmin 2620, having been informed that it was an improvement on the 2620. I was very happy with the performance and interface on the 2620, but the interface was changed on the 2720, in my opinion, for the worse. The 2620 allowed specification of the level of detail at various zoom levels for street names. The 2720 only shows names of the street you're on and intersecting streets. The other streets are shown, with NO NAMES. This cannot be overridden. Garmin claims this downgrade "reduces clutter." Since it does one no good to know the streets are there if you don't know what streets they are, they could have removed the streets from the map as well and had a really clean interface... just a couple of crossing lines! I have confirmed with Garmin's support that this cannot be overridden (as it could in the 2620). In addition, the 2620 showed quite accurately the house number corresponding to your position on the street. It now just shows that your on the street, not where. All in all, it went from being a great GPS to a mediocre one at best. I returned it and got a Magellan.
