does not get that hot, a little hard to use

I got this grill for x mas. I have had one of these grills before and was super excited about the multi- trays and looked easy to clean. Well i tried to make corn beef hash on first, the grill didn'y get that hot. Next I tried waffles, made more of a mess. The trays are easy to clean but it is hard to clean by the hinges. I hope it gets easier as i use it more
