Beware of poor customer service
After much research on this site, a few
other sites and a couple of visits to
various local retailers, I decided to
make the plunge into front projection
with the Infocus IN72. Given my meager
budget, the IN72 seemed to be my best
option.
I ordered it from an authorized online
retailer, and received it about 13 days
later. After installation and
calibration, I was reasonably satisfied
with it's performance with HD (albeit
not an HD projector) and very impressed
with the IQ from a progressively scanned
DVD source. Overall I was quite
satisfied, until....
A couple of days ago, I was watching a
ballgame with several friends, and for
no reason the projector just died. It
acts as though it's unplugged....DEAD.
After being told that my 30day window
for return had expired with the retailer
(purchased 38days ago), I was thinking,
worse case scenario, I can contact
Infocus and arrange to swap this unit
out. Nope, they only offer a 15 day
warranty on their projectors. 15
DAYS!?!? My only options are to send it
in for repair or pay $99 to swap it out
for a refurbished unit!
Bottom line, I've owned the dang thing
for barely a month, and I'm stuck with
having it repaired, paying full price
(+$100) for a refurbished replacement or
throwing it away and starting over.
I find it ludicrous that in this day in
age, a manufacturer with such a
reputation offers such poor customer
service and more importantly, won't
stand behind their product. Even if it
is a simple repair (I've read there is a
design flaw in the fuse put in these
things), the prudent move here is to
issue a recall and offer a replacement
at no cost to the customer.
There is no doubt in my mind that I WILL
NEVER BUY ANOTHER PRODUCT FROM INFOCUS
EVER AGAIN! While I'm sure I'm in the
minority, any of you who are
contemplating a purchase from this
manufacturer should certainly think twice.
