I have several LaCie drives at home (an old pocketdrive and a new d2 quadra). All work fine and saved my digital life several times (I use them to share and backup one imac G4, one PWB G5, and one new MacBook).
In the office (I am photographer), I have 2 BigDisk 1TB connected on the FireWire 800 port of my MacPro. I mirrored them with Apple Disk Utilities (RAID1).
Conclusion: I have 1TB with the speed of RAID0 (these drives have built-in superfast RAID0), the security of the mirroring (I have bee using hard drives for so many years, and I know that all drives may have a disk failure one day, whatever the brand!)... last but not the least: the complete solution is faster, more reliable and much more cost efficient than any other professional solution I've seen on the market!
What is cool with these Big Disks is that I can stack them all together with my d2 Blue Ray and it is really space saving. I know that these drives are rackmountable as well, but I never tried.
Conclusion: twice better, twice safer, with great price for the capacity and the peace of mind!
