I bought the Home Edition off the net. Turned out to be the upgrade version. This caused a problem since I wanted to replace a pirated version on a PC I bought. I had to format the drive and load Win 98, then upgrade. The 30 days to register is a pain because Microsoft limits the number of times and PCs you can use that copy on. If you upgrade to newer pcs, you may have to buy a new liscense. It operates very well and makes new hardware addition much easier. In fact, you must have XP to add some of the newer hardware. Start up depends more on the number of programs starting when you turn on your PC, so I don't know that it starts faster. 256meg of RAM is a must though, since XP is RAM hungry. As always, there are holes for hackers so you need the Service Pack, a firewall or software to keep gremlins out.
