Only thing I can add about the Live subscription that hasn't been said already is to make sure you're not a dummy like me and activate it on the wrong account.
I did just that (I have two similarly named profiles) and Microsoft couldn't (wouldn't?) allow me to reactivate on the correct account - even though I called the day after doing so.... See more
