I have always had bad cable reception in my house. I guess the signal coming in was weak in both places I lived. I added this booster to a 4 way split and it provided excellent results. One main thing I would like to mention if you are looking for a fix to your reception issues...use good cable and connectors. I bought the premade wires and that fixed a lot of issues. Stay away from the twist on connectors. They kill your signal. I am not a pro by any means, but I know this is a fact. Buying this on the internet is the way to go. I save about 50% off the circuit city price. I used Compuplus. Some reviews were bad, but I took a shot. It was an all-around great transaction. $9 for shipping and it got there within a week. I definitely recommend this product. It's great for the pros and non-pros for addressing reception issues. I can't comment on cable modem performance. I put the booster after my cable modem split.
