No-Frills PDA for a Low Price
Review From: NexTag Editorial Review, Feb 23, 2005
The PalmOne Tungsten E Color designed as a replacement for the Palm V and Palm Vx, features a slim design and 320x320 pixel TFT color display. With few frills and a more than adequate software bundle, this PDA is aimed at budget-conscious business professionals. Though the unit does not come equipped with any wireless connectivity, this may appeal to users who want a simple yet stylish organizer at a low cost. The 126MHz processor and 32MB of memory allow applications to run smoothly. The Tungsten E software bundle includes: schedule/organizer applications, contact, calendar, the ability to sync with Microsoft Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, the ability to read e-books and view photos, a world clock, Kinoma player and producer for viewing movie clips, Real One Mobile player, and Documents To Go Professional Edition 6.0 for editing Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files. The Tungsten E does not come with an included desktop cradle or universal connector and requires the use of separate syncing and charging cables, which may seem inconvenient for those used to a desktop cradle or dock. A few other drawbacks are that the unit has no microphone for voice recording, the metallic case easily gathers fingerprints, and the battery life is rather short for constant use of power-intensive multimedia applications such as MP3 or video playback. Overall, the PalmOne Tungsten E is perfect for those who require the bare essentials from their PDA, but desire the look and feel of a higher-end model with a large color display and slim design.

Battery life is horrible
Review From: cashenjoe@yahoo.com, Jan 15, 2007  | See All Reviews
When my BRAND NEW Tungsten E was 4 months old and had been used very little, the battery life went from 100% to 1% on a full charge. If I charge it fully according to the manual, I'm LUCKY if I get 3 minutes use from it before the battery dies. Try getting hold of Palm for service info or for anything other than sales...getting an audience with God is a cake walk in comparison. The best thing Palm can to is take the Tungsten E and make it so that it will work on regular double or tripple A batteries. Power is the only issue. Other than this MAJOR design flaw, the Tungsten E is great. Till they can make this thing worth the price they charge, get a Day Runner and a good pen and save yourself a lot of suffering.

Piece of Junk
Review From: billbbrown@prodigy.net, Dec 27, 2005  | See All Reviews
First four months, on/off button fell off. After 14 months sound went out. Customer service would have fixed the button for $140.00! The only thing is it cost $180.00 new. Palm does not seem to have a very good warranty program. Will look for other brands.

I went back to my Visor Pro
Review From: stavros@sbc.net, Nov 23, 2005  | See All Reviews
Battery life no more than one day. Frequent crashes. Worked for 5 minutes with wireless keyboard and never after. I have returned to my Visor Pro. I miss the color but that is all. Even with heavy use I never have to recharge more than once a week. It rarely crashes.

Not bad for price
Review From: Lori, Jun 10, 2005
I received this as a Christmas gift about a year & a half ago. For the last year or so, it makes this annoying buzzing sound. I have gotten to the point where I don't even like to use it because of the noise. There are a lot of programs available for Palm PDAs which is a bonus over other competitors. I use it for everything, including games!

Power switch failed in less than a year!
Review From: Robert Holmes, Jan 20, 2005
I've had lesser grade Palms and always been satisfied. I stepped up to the Tungsten E. After 10 months the power switch failed. It's as if it is pressed in and won't pop out to turn on/off. Of course, no one offers service, and no warranty. I think I'll try a IBM based PDA this time.

A Step Backwards
Review From: Mic McDonal, Jan 10, 2005
I received the Tungsten E with expectations that it would change my life . I requested it and I got it at Christmas. The old saying "be careful of what you wish for because you just might receive it" rings true with me. I did organize my entire life around this toy - the three organizations that I run and my job - and within one week the PDA fails completely. I brought it back to the Radio Shack in Carmel, NY and the clerks returned it no questions asked. I asked if this product is defective and they said they did not think so. Guess what? The Tungsten E fails again within two days. Run - do not walk and return your Tungsten E and invest in a good note book pad because in the end it is more dependable .

Takes a licking....
Review From: martin@doucette.bc.ca, Jan 6, 2005  | See All Reviews
I've had my PalmOne Tungsten E since March 2003. It's been reliable and low, make that NO-maintnenace. I hate to borrow the slogan from Timex, so I shall paraphrase: Reliable and Works like a charm. I stopped using my pen to paper Daytimer within a week, never using a PDA before, though have had basic computer knowledge. On my original battery and only recharge when the battery is near depleted. Isn't that what you're suppose to do? The Tungsten E has been an excellent addition to my work, even with the basic programs it came with! I've added nothing more and use every program but one on a regular basis. I would recommend the Tungsten E to anyone, and have, and they've enjoyed it as well.

$125 extra cost....thanks for shopping!
Review From: laurie B, Nov 9, 2004
Had my E for one year. Battery would only last 3 days before it needed a charge. I only used it maybe 3 min. 5 times a day. Battery should have lasted longer. Now, screen is black and it won't go on. Power button problem or battery? Don't know. It will cost me $125 to fix the problem, even if it is just a battery change! Outrageous. I saved no money in buying this piece of junk!

Poor Quality
Review From: Cathy McTernan, Oct 2, 2004
Purchased in April 2004. Had problems from the first. Needed to have one returned. The photos did not work, neither did the versa mail. Now the power button does not work. Repairs would cost $125.00. Product not worth the money spent.

Review From: zeddaroo@msn.com, Aug 4, 2004  | See All Reviews
I loved this PDA for four months...before it died. The screen froze and then went black. Palm says that it is out of warranty and will not help. Palm says that this model was discontinued because of problems! It was kept in a case, no damage, just ...nothing! Be careful.

Tungsten E is a piece of junk.
Review From: Donald Heckman, Jun 11, 2004
I have had my Tungsten E for 6 months. The power switch has failed. Due to the 90 day warrenty, the cost to fix it is $125 plus cost of shipping. This is unconscionable for a $200 piece of equipment.

Dreck for software
Review From: Howard Salsitz, J.D., Feb 10, 2004
This is my third Palm. I have never had any problems before with my Palm III or Palm IIIC. I have had nothing but problems with the software on this. I replaced the handheld and all problems persist. I am very disappointed.

Easy to use, light weight, powerfull little unit. I use it link w/ Lotus Note e-mail service. Had to purchased additional software to do this. This my first PDA and I was suprise of how quickly I learn to use this unit (2 to 3 days). Would not be without PDA! I love it. The on negative is there is currently no cradle..

it broke after 3 months
Review From: Maxwell Contranegra, Jan 27, 2004
I bought it laste fall and the sliding action has failed: it died and will not power up, it was sent off to Palm over Christmas and I was informed it would be replaced, nearly Feb. and the last word was they were backlogged with replacement orders ant it would take a while. I went with Palm because the Vx I had was great, finally died as all electronics do--but not in 3 months! Advice: if it has a sliding action, do not buy it, it is a wear-point. Mine saw heavy use and it is just not meant for that.

WOW a great pda!
Review From: Marc, Jan 9, 2004
I believe that this is the mother of all pda's! I have shopped around for others and I feel this is a good investment if you get it from the internet for a cheaper price. The processor is lightning fast and the amount of memory is just WOW! The battery goes a little quickly, but this is expected! If you are looking for a great Pda look no further and buy this one because it is GREAT!!!!
