Review from a filmmaker
Review From: stranger, Sep 26, 2005
I have this cam and also the DVC10 which is the 3ccd version of this camera. I'm used to seeing beautiful images as professional work so I consider this cam and most others *junk* but if you are gonna use this for a videography service then its a great deal. Remember that most cameras will output good images if you light the scene well. Bad/low light=bad result. For the price and look, you won't find anything better. Your clients only know one thing. If it is big, it must be good. Thats all they know. This is why this cam is good. Most people can't tell the difference between 1ccd and 3ccd until you show them side by side. And lets face it, all wedding videos, graduations etc. look like junk because you got to shoot live action with uncontrolled lighting. So just get this and make the most out of it. You'll save $1000 and then you can buy some wireless audio stuff and lights, mic., tripod. etc. I think most wedding videographers, photographers are thieves just like mechanics - overpriced cheap quality. I met a photographer who is very well known all over big cities. He charges a lot but produces junk with a 6MP SLR and a 200mm lens with a flash attachment. The photos aren't hi def and you see that flash on all the pictures. He told me he simply sends these images out to another company who fix them up. Then he sells them to his clients. Makes $120,000 a year working 52 days. If you want to make money, do what thieves do. Overprice and over-hype your service. I hate the video biz. running around with cheap cameras, telling people it is film quality. I'd rather do quality productions which are not shot in a live environment.

Will not last--junk
Review From: PCT Videoguy, Oct 3, 2006
I work for a College film program that purchased 15 of these cameras in 2003. In the three years since, ALL of these cameras have failed, with the same errors. After a few dozen hours of use, the camera will begin to randomly power itself down when the record button is pressed. Additionally, the cameras consistently display a "Press the Reset Button" error whenever we try to switch between camera and VCR modes. Functionally, they're pretty pathetic as well--having all of the adjustments on one scroll wheel is a nightmare. We deal with many, many brands and models of DV, DVCAM, DVCPRO, and HDV cameras, and this model is by far the biggest lemon we've ever encountered. Panasonic has been stonewalling us about warranty issues since we purchased these, and if you read most DV forums this model is widely perceived as junk my anyone who purchased it. Avoid this one like the plague.

Professional looking and good picture quality

Very impressive looking camera that makes you look professional. Picture quality is better than my SVHS Panasonic AG450 and a lot better than my Samsung miniDV especially in low light condition with much less pixelation. At around $1000 US, it is the best money can buy for a entry level proline camera. But to the real pro, is it really proline? Fortunately, it has better quality than most consumer DV, manual override control and lots of addon to enhance your video experiences or you can put out another couple thousands for the next model up with 3ccd. Unless you are into news gathering or producing commercial, you cannot really justify putting out 3 times more money. This camera is good enough for taping your next wedding project and make you look better than that relative with a baby 16 oz Sony miniDV.

Very Impressive!
Review From: ron foss, Jan 13, 2004
Everybody I've showed this camcorder to are really impressed by the professional appearance, which to me is very important when video taping a wedding, music, or any other event where professional appearance is a must. I can't comment on the difference in quality of the video to other dv camcorders, since this is my first dv cam, but I can say without hessitaion, that I am extremely happy with the quality of video and the ease of use of the side buttons. And the ability for interchangable lenses along with the amazingly low price makes this camcorder one of the best deals on proline dv cams I've come across. And yes, I'm going to buy another one!
