User Review: The playback is barely audible unless held right up to your ear. I even returned the first unit because of this and the replacment unit was the same. The sound is great when using headphones,

I use it primarily to record big band rehearsals and personal practice.

Excellent portable recorder with remote
"...I use this to record my daughter's guitar lessons. It's easy to use and the sound quality is fantastic.
My favorite feature -- the one that led me to get this unit over cheaper ones from Zoom -- is the wired remote.
Put this thing on a tripod and hold the remote and you'll get zero handling noise and a great recording...."

Solid recorder - useless speaker
"...Use it for field interviews and ambient sound recording.
Easy to use - great sound, but speaker is next to useless, although this seems typical for this level of recorder.

OUTSTANDING !!!!!
"...
I bought this for lessons, practice and just to be able to critique myself and our jam's, however this little gut was so great it started to go to small venues and open mic concerts with me.
I burned CD's for some of the perfomers and they were blown away with the quality of the recordings...."

Good gadget
"...
Pros: Sturdy construction, essential functions have dedicated buttons on the unit (not buried in a hard-to-get-at menu), on-board mics are surprisingly good, nice big display for old blind guys like me, comes with remote control, AC adapter and Sound Forge editing software as standard.
Cons: Micro SD cards for data storage(not supplied), they're so small they're actually inconvenient to use and easy to lose...."

Great Sound
"...We're playing acoustic music and everything comes thru so crisp and clear. The bass sounds great too.
The Sony sounds much better than cheaper models I've heard.
You definately get what you pay for with a digital recorder and for the low 200's this seems like a good deal...."
