I think the previous reviewer has a defective unit. I have the Seagate-packaged unit in a FireWire-400/USB-2 box, and it is only slightly warm, with convection cooling only (no fan). The unit is amazingly fast. It's MUCH cooler and faster than the 500GB LaCie two-disk striped array I have, even though the LaCie is running twice as fast (FireWire 800). What's not to like?
