I've had my Chill Pad about a year now. I have found it to keep my laptop running quite a bit cooler. I have a Pentium 4 and it tends to make the bottom and top of the laptop very hot. The Chill Pad reduces that greatly and gives me a sense of security about running it for long periods of time without damage to the hard drive. Be sure and clean the dust off the fans every couple of weeks, it can accumulate there.
