Reconditioned has no flaws
Had new 740, returned for the 755 for 450 and bought a second refurbished 740 for half, it does the same except for the screen quality was below average. However, you only notice its brighter than average when you compare it to others. We run that thing till it shuts down, plugs it in to charge and still, no memory loss. Reconditioned must have fixed that problem and download patch too. The CF card will use too much power and slow operations but the SD card is quicker. CF is good for extra GPS card. As with all applications saved only to the SD card, responsiveness suffers and you are encouraged to save to internal memory. This puppy hauls, browser, MP3 player, MPEG player-get free online, word, excel, a notebook computer less 10lbs and no boot up time, new transcriber transcribes writing in cursive, wi-fi with ease, buy a 256MB SD card watch an MPEG-1/2 you made!

S;eazy Display
I love the features of this monster but there rae several design flows. The stlus will tear your thumb fless apart. It is difficult to take it out, that i had to but a pen sylus later. Display is very poor. The device design is from 1980s. WiFi function is great but why do you need it with this small machine. Bluetooth would be more efficient to connect to net thru your bluetooh phone dial up. I just sold it to get a transreflective HP-Ipaq 1910. Toshibe need to do some design upgrade or else. I had great hopes fopr this, my second Toshiba after e310 which was THIN, THIN, THIN. This is very thick. I am no longer a Toshiba fan after e740.If you find it below $250 buy it as a good buy, otherwise, avoid.

Best PDA on the market today
Imagine buying a brand new Dodge Neon for 10k and thinking it is just great. The next day you talk to your friend who bought a brand new Mercedes Benz for 9k. That is the difference between the Toshiba e740 and its leading competitors, like the Compaq ipaq. Make sure that when you buy this product you do not pay more that $500. This will be the best purchase you will even wake. With built in WiFi wireless internet you can surf the net on your e740 while sitting at that gate in an airport, or on your home wireless network. 400 MHz is lightening fast, and the two expansion slots are killer. Buy this product today, before every store is out of stock.

Excellent Product!!!!!
The Toshiba E740 is an excellent buy for anyone who is on the go. Its slim design and large screen added to wireless internet make an unbeatable team. This pocket pc has been reviewed as the best deal for its money and I can believe it. It is very smooth scrolling and has excellent color and graphics. I reccomend this product to anyone who can't sit down at a desk and work. Very easy to use and easy to handle.

Disappointing
After several "glowing" reviews, I replaced my HP with the E740. From the very beginning I had problems with the backlight display, brightness was mediocre. The slide switch on the battery kept moving and losing my data and the annoying location of the on/off switch was constantly causing you to turn on the unit.Toshiba claimed to have fixed the total memory loss of data with a patch but it didn't work- thank goodness I backed up to a flashcard regularly. For a top of the line unit, this product was and still is sup par. Speaking of Toshiba, reaching customer support was incredibly hard and I'm sure it's that way with most brands exception Dell. My next PDA will be the HP 2215.

Do not buy
Go to Brighthand.com and visit the forums. Read for a while. If that doesn't explain it all, visit www.bbb.org and see Toshiba's company rating.

warning!
I think Toshiba 740e has the technical problem which can't be resolved! I bought a Toshiba PDA 740 e last October. I have not been able to use it since then. It caused many troubles to me! Don't buy this PDA if you don't want to have a Toshiba PDA headache.

No memory backup.
If your battery runs down, you lose everything. Nuff said? Even if you buy a flash memory card and run backups to it every day, you have to start from scratch when you turn it back on. You have to go through a demo of how to cut and paste, then set the time and date, then go to the backup program and restore your latest backup. And the backup doesn't get everything. Useless!

Needs more development
Product is a good idea but seems to have been released before all the bugs are worked out. Extremely power hungry. Eats batteries for breakfast making the rest of the day tough. Often loose data because there is no backup battery to preserve the memory. I returned mine.

this stinks
product is really terrible. freezes any time i attempt to use wifi. frequently reboots on its own and i lose all data (even when plenty of battery life left). when it is functioning, you lose everything when the battery runs out, and that happens frequently because it is easy to accidentally hit the record function (which has little to no use for me).
