Our kids are starting piano lessons soon, and we had to make the big decision: acustic or digital? Needless to say we decided to get a digital one and we are very happy with our choice: no tuning, can use headphones, less expensive.
We tried the Yamaha Clavinova CLP models, a Roland MP60 and the Yamaha YDP models.
The Roland had good keyboard, but a plastiky feeling and weak sound (speakers pointing down only). The Clavinovas were very nice, but quite expensive. We liked the CLP 320, and considered buying it: good keyboard, good sound, good set of "digital" features, but the price tag was $2,200 so we decided to shop some more. And we found the YDP223, that has very similar features as the CLP 320, but just a slightly less fancy cabinet. The price tag was 1599$ from the music store, same as the prices I wound on the web, and I got headphones for free and the possibility to return it if I don't like it. But this won't happen: we are really happy with the piano: the keybord is quite realistic, and the many voices are a lot of fun for the whole family, even before starting piano lessons.
