Hefty Features in a Lightweight Design
Review From: NexTag Editorial Review, Apr 14, 2005
The Canon GL2 is a mid-range camcorder with professional-grade qualities, designed as a replacement to the Canon GL1 with a lighter design and increased CCD pixels. The GL2 features 20x optical zoom, 100x digital zoom, a 2.5" swing-out LCD screen that can rotate up to 270 degrees, and a 58 mm L-Series Fluorite lens providing high-quality color, resolution, and contrast. Canon provides two zoom controls and users have the option of setting variable zoom speeds for both. Though designed for more advanced users, the GL2 has a couple of features making it simple to use. An optical image stabilizer reduces shaking for smoother hand-held video quality. The camcorder has six pre-set recording modes including: Auto, TV, AV, Manual, Sand & Snow, and Spotlight. The GL2 also has an SD memory card slot (with a supplied 8MB card) for storing photos. The most notable new feature on the GL2 is the ability for users to monitor and control audio. The camcorder has two channels of audio with auto and manual controls. Audio levels can be monitored on the indicator screen on the side of the camcorder. Canon also introduces the Clear Scan feature that allows users to adjust shutter rate to that of computer monitors to avoid seeing lines across the monitor.
