At a friend's suggestion we tried this heater to cut down winter gas bills. Last winter in Ohio its use cut gas bill $60/mo, increased electric bill $20/mo. We've also found it very safe. Only the top is very hot; it kicked off instantly when the dog knocked it over. Once we realized how efficient it is we quit using the timer, so you might consider the cheaper model without a timer. Definitely worth the money.
