Similar to the Z-680 with Added Features
Review From: NexTag Editorial Review, Apr 18, 2005
The Logitech Z-5500 5.1 speaker system
features a total of 505 watts, four
satellite speakers, a center speaker, a
subwoofer, and a Digital SoundTouch
control center. Each of the system's
satellite speakers has an output of 62
watts, the center speaker has an output
of 69 watts, and the large subwoofer
has an output of 188 watts.
Similar to other Logitech systems, the
satellite speakers feature removable
cloth grilles, rotating pedestals, and
are able to be wall mounted. The
control center had audio decoders that
support Dolby Digital, DTS, DTS 96/24,
and Dolby Pro Logic and is THX
certified. The Z-550's analog and
digital audio capability allows the
unit to connect to PCs, DVD players, CD
players, game consoles, and portable
digital music players. Connectivity
options include coaxial and optical
digital inputs, a headphone jack, and a
wireless remote. Performance wise, the
Z-5500 is similar to the Z-680, but it
features a redesigned control center
with a better knob and an easier-to-
read display.
Also similar to the Z-680, Z-5500's
center speaker emits a barely audible
hiss when there is no sound playing.
Also, when compared to other 5.1
speaker systems, the Z-5500 is a bit
expensive. Overall the Logitech Z-5500
is best suited for users who want a
versatile home speaker system with an
array of connectivity options and audio
decoders.
