Worst customer service ever. Purchased an item the 27th of November and it got backordered a couple of times. Cancelled the order the 12th of december, and it still got shipped and can't return it. JCPenney won't do anything about it, even though it was clearly their mistake. Customer service is unhelpful and mean. Never buying from JCPENNEY again and certainly recommend you not to either

Two weeks after placing an order for "in stock" items, they are still not here. Items were to be "shipped to store", with estimated delivery in 4-7 business days, and JCPenney cannot even tell me when they will arrive. Penneys has inadequate stock and selection of items in their brick and mortar stores, and sadly inadequate online shopping. All this and they still charge for delivery to the store. I'd suggest passing this place up.

JCP catalog online ordering service has declined drastically. Either they are guilty of false advertising or are being mislead by their suppliers. I've had two orders for baby nursery sets. After two weeks of waiting for delivery on the first order, I learned that the nursery furniture was no longer in stock and that the order had been dropped. I never received a courteous phone or email of the change in the order status. What I thought was a gracious gesture (later proved to be a sham) was JCPenny agreeing to give me an addition 25% discount on another Baby Nursery set. Again, it was in stock when it was ordered on 3/27/11. I begin tracking this second order right away. In doing so, I found that the order status was changed as much as 3 times in one day (Showing as shipped in the morning, backordered in the afternoon, and a different backorder date in the evening). I'm including all of this to say this -- You cannot trust JCP to deliver when they say and the terms of the order should be continously scrutinized. I'm really disappointed that the service has declined to this level -- I have been a loyal JCPenny customer for over 20 years.

I purchased 4 sets of Chris Madden Corvella 16 piece dinnerware. Over 50% of the dinnerware was flawed. The visibly flawed pieces equaled two 16 piece settings. I returned them in exchange for 2 more 16 piece settings. Over 50% of the replacement settings were flawed. The flaws consist of exposed pottery where the ceramic glaze had either popped or had not covered sufficiently. Other pieces had rough pimple-like textures, glove imprints, cracks that had been glazed over, multiple scratches in the glaze, warped pieces, dark brown specks unlike the coloring in the finish, visible touch-up spots that did not cover or seal the imperfections, and the least problematic pieces that I ended up keeping were pooling and running of color in the bottom of plated and sides of bowls and cups. I was very disappointed in the overall quality of this product. I'm also frustrated that after returning the defective merchandise, I ended up with more defective merchandise that will need to be returned. Also, at the time of purchase, I was to receive 15% off if I used a Penny's charge card. I didn't have a charge card. I was told I could earn another 10% off if I applied for one, which I did. In reviewing my receipt, I discovered that I had not received the promised 10% discount even though the cashier had assured me that she was entering it. When I exchange the dishes I asked for an adjustment on the price. The cashier made an adjustment, but made another error and I was still overcharged $10.00. It's a 30-minute drive to Penny's so that's a costly trip in wasted time and gas due to poor quality merchandise and cashier errors. And I'm still short one set of dinnerware and don't know if I have the stamina to go through the process of sorting through another two or three sets in order to get one set that is acceptable.

Finally placed an order online after figuring out the stores don't carry as much as they used to. In my case this time I am needing an ironing board. Placed the order 11/22 for the board I think I wanted (it is always so hard to tell from the 1 or 2 pictures you get online). It showed to be on back-order until 12/4. Within a day the order status got updated to show a back-order date of 11/30. This excited me as it means I get my ironing board sooner than later. Well 11/30 came and went with no change in status online. Now 12/4 came and went still with no change. I called customer service on 12/8 to get an email two days later saying the new back-order date is 12/15. Still no change in online order status. Also no explanation for the change of dates or lack of status updates. 12/15 came and still no change in status. It does not show shipped or a tracking number. In fact it still shows the status as back-ordered with an 11/30 date. Call again to get the response of "we don't know" and all we can see is what you see online. The inquiry takes 24 to 48 hours and now that Christmas season is in full swing I shouldn't even count on that. I get the corporate customer service number to make a complaint. They took my information and story to say someone will contact me 24 to 48 hours later. Now the corporate person did call me from the Reno warehouse in about an hour. She could not give me any explanations for what happened and how it happened and why it continues to happen. She did say that the Kansas warehouse has a board so she will sending that out now. We will see if/when it shows up. With my experience with ordering in my professional life I can tell you whatever system JC Penney is using is broken and non-functional. This kind of changing dates and lack of status updates would cause a vendor to loose a business account forever. JC Penney can consider me a business account as I will not be ordering anything from them ever again.
