Great Sound, Easy to Use
Review From: JZ, Jan 11, 2007
I bought this unit from Best Buy using a Circuit City (10% off) coupon which they matched, even though CC doesn't offer the product. My previous unit was a component system that was going on 8 years old. I researched this thing for weeks and wanted a home theater in a box solution b/c of the size and ease of use factor. Yamaha has an outstanding reputation and reviews for their other models were extremely positive.
First, the set up is pretty simple. All the speakers hook into the sub and there is one connection from the sub to the DVD player. Audio connection to the TV was simple as I used a plain red/white wire from the TV audio out into the DVD and one S-Video cable. Two wires, that's it. Note, it may be better if you have your own speaker wire as the system comes with 80 feet of wire but it's not spliced and ready to go, which can take quite some time for 5 speakers.
My only real issue with this system is that it does not discuss how to work the hook up with a cable box so while I got sound from the DVD right away I needed some help to get sound from the cable box. Turns out its pretty simple too, just connect the red/white audio wires from the cable box into the AUX ports on the DVD player and select AUX on the remote. Took all of 15 seconds once I found out how to do it.
All in all, great system, nice and clean lines, small enough but plenty powerful and for the price it's a no-brainer.
Note - haven't used the iPod port yet but it's a one wire connection too and seems simple enough.
